Injection Therapy

Acupuncture injection therapy (AIT)

Also known as Acupoint injection therapy is an integrative bioregulatory therapy blending the best of Chinese Medicine with vitamins and homeopathic medicines. Employing this technique, AIT certified acupuncturists inject specific locations on the body with homeopathic medicines, Lipo-Mino B-12 injection for weight loss, or other nutritional supplements in the form of sterile substances by means of hypodermic needles to prevent, promote, maintain, and restore health. Its objective is to restore normal functioning of the autoregulating systems which steer the basic physiological processes in the body. The body’s numerous autoregulating systems each have their own set points and the autoregulating process fluctuates to maintain homeostasis near that set point. Disease occurs when an autoregulating system is no longer oscillating near the set point. The goal of AIT is to restore autoregulation using the stimulus of injection.

How Does it Work?

Injection of small amounts of natural substances into acupuncture points activates them in a similar way to the insertion of acupuncture needles. However, the injection will stimulate the acupuncture point for a much longer period of time, thus enhancing the therapeutic effect.  By stimulating specific points with small amounts of medicinal/botanical substances we can obtain a dual effect of acupoint stimulation and the pharmacological effect of the substance injected. Think of it as ‘super acupuncture’. It is a very useful technique in hard-to-treat, or poorly responding conditions. While more research into exactly how AIT works is needed, research indicates AIT may work by stimulating your immune system to restart its innate healing capacities such as improved local blood circulation, tissue repair, relaxation of muscles, increased metabolism, or local detoxification.

Is AIT safe?

Acupuncture injection therapy is considered a safe form of therapy. Injections are given under the skin, the subcutaneous tissue, or into the muscles. Toxic side effects are very unlikely because of the diluted nature of the products.

 What to Expect

Your AIT certified Acupuncturist will determine whether you are a candidate for AIT therapy. The first session may take up to 1 hour, while subsequent sessions may only take 30 minutes. Lipo-Mino B-12 for weight loss Injections take only 10 minutes. Injections are very different than those you would receive in a doctor’s office. The needles used are smaller and only very thin sterile disposable needles are used. Most clients will feel a slight pinch as the injection is administered. It is possible to experience a bruise, discoloration, or some pain at the site of injection the next day. Injections may be administered at one point or multiple points on the body depending on the condition. For treatment of muscle pain: length of therapy is greatly dependent on the individual and severity of the condition. Many clients will experience relief within 1 to 2 sessions, while others will require more treatments. However, you should notice changes in your condition within the first 5 sessions. Lipo-Mino injections are administered once weekly until desired weight loss has been achieved.

Conditions Treated

AIT is particularly effective for the resolution of acute and chronic pain in the body, particularly in the shoulder, back, knee, and neck along with treating arthritis, bursitis, tendinitis, and muscle spasms. We also use AIT techniques in our weight loss and detoxification protocols. If your condition is not listed here and would like to see if it may be treated with AIT, please call the office and discuss it with our Acupuncture Physician.

 AIT Certification

In order to use AIT as a therapy, Acupuncture Physicians must complete additional didactic and clinical training beyond their traditional education. An additional certification in AIT must be earned in order to practice this technique.
